It was still drizzly at night after a long day at Spreewald. It was so cold that my cousin requested the meal to be soupy stuff. It’s my first time having asian food in Europe, but I have always been loving Vietnamese food, so let’s go and give it a good try! 🙂

Today, we will be escaping the busy city, and head out for a greenery, rural yet gorgeous nature getaway. We will be also experience a different side of Germany with little canals and heavily forested nature.

In 1991, Spreewald was named a UNESCO biosphere reserve, over 400 km of natural and man-made waterways.

Waking up early to head to Spreewald for a daytrip!
Feeling exciting just a little worry for the weather because its drizzly 😡
We bought our ticket! This ticket is for maximum 5 person though we only have 2. But the price is cheaper this way then individual ticket. This cost us 31 Euro for 2 pax (if you have 5, its even cheaper as per pax!)
Berlin looks pretty clean and neat. Like the whole train station is pretty!
So, we will have 1 hour odd train ride towards Spreewald. We do packed bananas otw!

Let’s talk about Spreewald

The Spreewald (German for ‘Spree Forest’; in Lower Sorbian: Błota, i.e. ‘the Swamps’) is a section of the German state of Brandenburg located about 100 km south-east of Berlin. It was the center of the Battle of Halbe at the end of World War II, which included the last major land conflicts between German and Soviet forces. Spreewald was designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1991. It is known for its traditional irrigation system, consisting of more than 200 small canals (called Fließe; total length: 1,300 kilometres or 810 miles) within the 484-square-kilometre (187 sq mi) area. The landscape was shaped during the last Ice Age. (Extract from Wiki)

Is this too wordy for a start? Anyway, I happened to find out about Spreewald when I was researching about day trip out from Berlin. My type of holiday will always have some cafe, some food hunt, some interesting visits as well as day trip too, especially we have a bit more time in Berlin too! 🙂

Do remember to alight at Lübbenau (Spreewald) station, please do not be confuse with Lübben station that comes before it.

After unpacked at our hotel – Courtyard by Marriott, we headed out for our first meal in Germany. And you will not be surprised what was and going to be on the plate. Its Berlin, its Germany, of cos we will be heading out for pork knuckles. (And, both of us are not exactly pork knuckles fans haha!)

(This was written when I just flew back, and guessed what? I only posted it more than 1.5 years later!LOL) How time flies, I have returned from my trip for a week and I’m suffering from jet lag. But, I really enjoyed this trip because there’s so much sightseeing and took really crazy amount of photos. Oh, did I mentioned, there’s snow for 3 days!

I know I have yet share my first trip to Europe (Swiss/Italy/Paris) but let the fresher trip written first.

Hello Berlin 🙂

We arrived at Berlin TXL airport after 13 hours. My very first time in Germany *wave*. We decided to take a longer route (probably another 10mins more) so we will only need to walk and “drag” our luggage to the hotel in the shorter time taken.

Curry 36 (Bahnhof Zoo)

We supposed to change our bus to the subway, and we saw Curry 36. Hungry us decided to just give it a try haha. Food first, going hotel unpack come later haha.

Currywurst

In Germany, everyone knows they are famous of their Beer and Sausage. It was when I did more research, I realise, it was their currywurst that was famous as one of their home-brand street food. There’s many many listing on which is the best currywurst in Berlin too. Curry 36 is famous of their pricing so why not? 🙂

The tomato sauce was surprisingly not overpowering.

Their famous currywurst – is actually sausage with tomato sauce with curry powder. It’s quite a unique combi, and apparently, both of us do not like tomato sauce find the taste pretty different from what we had at home. It’s good, and a simple food for people who passed by and wanted to grab a simple breakfast! 🙂

(From WIKI) The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961 to separate West Berlin and East Berlin during the Cold War. All the differences between the countries made it a perfect place for people to express their opinions, especially on their preferences and dislikes. In the 1980s, the wall was reconstructed and made 14 feet tall. Graffiting on the wall became popular for artists from all over the world and a place where tourists would go and admire the artwork. The West Berlin side of the wall had artwork completely covering the wall, while the East Berlin side was kept blank because people were not permitted to get close enough to the eastside of the wall to paint anything.

Us, the meeting point is at Brandenburg Gate, so we reached early to grab a spot to take the iconic touristy photo haha.

Adlon Hotel in Berlin which is a luxury hotel in Berlin.
This hotel is so popular, where celebrities stayed here during their visit. One of the most popular incidents – Michael Jackson dangled his then-infant son Prince-Michael “Blanket” II out one of the hotel’s windows

Honestly, who will know about this if we didn’t go for this tour?
According to the guide, he stayed underground despite the army knows they gonna lose. He was found dead in the bunker too.
