It’s my 5th time in Jeju, but my first time staying near the Hyeopjae area — and I absolutely loved the change of scenery. We rented a car for this trip, so getting around was super convenient, even though our schedule was a bit packed. With limited days on the island, we really made full use of the car to explore as much as we could.

But honestly… I kind of wish we had more time. More time to slow down, relax, and just enjoy our stay. The accommodation we picked this round was incredibly pretty and cosy — it felt just like home. I could totally picture myself spending the morning making a nice breakfast, sipping tea, and soaking in the calm vibes. Maybe next trip, I’ll do exactly that

Trying New Stays in Korea – This Time, Back to Hongdae with L7!

In recent years, during my Korea trips, I’ve started trying out different places to stay—especially when my itinerary includes side trips to places like Busan or Jeju. I thought it’d be fun to explore more hotels this way… plus, more recommendations to share with you all!

For the last few nights of this trip, I returned to one of my favorite areas—Hongdae! And this time, I stayed at L7 Hongdae. Let me share more about it~

We shifted over to L7 Hongdae a little earlier before our Jeju trip, so it would be super convenient for us to return here right after we flew back~ Smooth and fuss-free planning!

The staff were really kind too—they helped us keep our luggage (we had 4 big ones! ) while we were away in Jeju. Super thankful for their hospitality!

They also surprised us with some traditional Korean snacks as a welcome treat when we checked in — such a sweet gesture that made us feel right at home!

One thing I really appreciate — hotels that give more hangers! With coats, shawls, and outfits to air out every night after a full day out, those extra hangers really come in handy. It’s the little things!

The room itself is pretty simple — nothing too fancy. And that brings me to the next point: the price might feel a little steep for what you get in terms of look and feel. (Honestly… RYSE still has my heart! )

I’m pretty sure everyone secretly (or not-so-secretly!) loves an automated toilet when they’re in Korea or Japan — it’s one of those little luxuries we all appreciate!

The room view was your typical Hongdae scene — which I actually loved! There’s something comforting about looking out at the road, seeing the familiar sights, and feeling right at home in the buzz of the city.

HELLOSIHUI’S THOUGHTS:
At nearly $200 a night for a twin-sharing room, this isn’t a budget hotel. Compared to Ryse, which was $400 during our stay, it’s definitely a different experience — not quite the same vibe, but still good enough for a comfy rest after a long day exploring Seoul’s streets. The bed was fine and didn’t cause me any back issues, which is a big plus! (Some hotels or guesthouses with those stiff spring beds have been a real torture for me.)

HELLOSIHUI’S TIPS: 
The location is definitely the best part — probably the main reason to stay here! The price can feel a bit steep, unless you snag some coupons on travel sites or happen to visit during a quiet, low-peak season.

Looking for a no-frills stay in Seoul that’s easy on the wallet but big on space? This hidden gem might just be what you need! Since our visit to Yongma Falls Park (용마폭포공원) didn’t quite go as planned (hello, dry waterfall vibes ), I wasn’t ready to give up on chasing waterfalls just yet! We made a spontaneous detour to Pokpo Café — a super cute spot where the main highlight isn’t just the coffee, but the actual waterfall right beside it!

It felt a little bit like we were squeezing in one last adventure before flying off — rushing, but in a “let’s just do it anyway” kind of way.

Sometimes, the best moments happen in between the tight schedules, and this quick stop definitely made up for our earlier letdown.

The view was honestly pretty nice — peaceful, calming, and a little hidden gem feel. But I’ve got to say, the area is super quiet and there’s not much else around, so it’s definitely more of a purpose trip kind of place. That said, if you’re someone who loves slow mornings or winding down with a book, this would be such a relaxing spot to do just that… provided you actually read, unlike me

Still, I think the little detour was worth it, especially when squeezed in between our slightly rushed schedule and our flight later. Sometimes, the in-between moments are the ones that stay with you the most.

Suguksa Temple might be small and tucked away in the quiet corners of Eunpyeong, but it’s truly one of a kind — it’s said to be the only golden temple in Korea! With its stunning gold exterior glowing against the backdrop of lush mountains, the temple stands out beautifully, especially under the autumn sun. It’s peaceful, photo-worthy, and holds a rich history too, making it a lovely hidden gem to explore when you’re in the area.

Did you know Suguksa Temple has a royal connection? Hidden in the calm hills of Eunpyeong, this peaceful little spot is actually linked to a dramatic piece of Joseon history. The temple was built in memory of Crown Prince Uigyeong, the son of King Sejo—yes, the same king who took the throne from his own nephew!

Uigyeong never got to be king himself; he sadly passed away young, at just 20. But his story didn’t end there—his son later became King Seongjong, one of Joseon’s most respected rulers. Suguksa was created to honor Uigyeong’s spirit, giving this quiet temple a powerful backstory filled with love, loss, and legacy.

So when you visit Suguksa, you’re not just enjoying a peaceful escape—you’re also walking through a slice of royal history wrapped in mountains and temple bells.

It’s a Buddhist temple, but whether you’re Buddhist or not (or of any religion), it’s always interesting to visit a place as special as this. The calm vibes, the golden shine, and all the intricate details in the architecture — there’s so much to appreciate just by slowing down and taking a closer look

This one definitely stands out from all the temples you’ve visited before — or even the ones you haven’t yet. The golden look gives it such a unique charm, it really feels like you’ve stepped into something special

The name 수국사 (Suguksa) translates to “Temple of Protecting the Nation” in English.

수 (Su) = to guard or protect / 국 (Guk) = nation or country / 사 (Sa) = temple

So the name Suguksa carries the meaning of a “Temple of National Protection”, reflecting its spiritual role in safeguarding the country — which makes its peaceful yet powerful presence even more meaningful.

Seoul Children’s Grand Park is a huge family-friendly park in Seoul that offers a mix of nature, animals, and fun activities! Located in Gwangjin-gu, this park is perfect for a relaxing stroll, and the best part—it’s totally free to enter!

There’s a small zoo, plenty of walking trails, and during our visit, we even caught some outdoor performances, including live singing! It’s a lively and enjoyable spot, perfect for a chill day out in Seoul.

Speaking of disappointments, I traveled quite a distance to Yongma Falls, excited to see the biggest artificial waterfall in Asia… haha. I thought this trip would make more sense compared to just visiting a café (which, yes, I also went to—for a particular reason that I’ll mention shortly).

The walk to Yongma Falls was short but surprisingly tiring, especially since we were on a time crunch—our flight was later that evening! ‍ Still, we wanted to make full use of our last day in Seoul by exploring something a little different from the past few days, which had started to feel a bit repetitive. Gotta squeeze in as much as we can before heading home!

Haha, it was exactly like this—SO SAD!!! Just when I finally made the trip, they were doing maintenance… oh no!!! What are the odds?!

If you’re a fan of Chinese cuisine, you’ve probably heard of Chef Lee Yeon-bok (이연복), the legendary chef who refined Menbosha (멘보샤) and made it a household name in Korea. Originally a Hong Kong-style dish, Menbosha is a deep-fried shrimp toast that became incredibly popular after Chef Lee showcased his version on the TV show “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator” (냉장고를 부탁해). His perfectly crispy, juicy Menbosha gained so much attention that many restaurants and home cooks started recreating it!

Today, I’m excited to share a Chinese restaurant that serves this famous dish—along with many other delicious specialties. If you love crispy shrimp toast and authentic flavors, this is a place you won’t want to miss! Keep reading for all the details.

Heads up! The Menbosha (멘보샤) needs to be pre-ordered when making a reservation. Since I booked online, I couldn’t place the order in advance, but luckily, the staff checked with the kitchen, and they had extras for us! Super lucky!

I absolutely love how thick and juicy the patty is—made with real prawns! The bread is thin and perfectly crispy, creating the ideal contrast. I mean, nothing beats a dish that’s so simple yet incredibly hard to execute perfectly, right?

We really had to be this lucky to get our hands on it since we didn’t pre-order! Feeling so thankful that they had extras for us—what a treat!

I think this is definitely worth trying, especially if your hotel or Airbnb doesn’t allow you to order delivery yourself. This might just be one of the best options in Seoul! That said, I personally still prefer the delivery versions—they’re packed with umami, and the way they’re sealed during delivery keeps everything moist and flavorful!

It’s natural to look forward to seeing cherry blossoms during a trip in March or April—it’s the perfect season with great weather (though still a bit chilly). But this year (2024) was tougher, with a significant delay. We didn’t catch any cherry blossoms at Sinchon at all—it was completely bare, haha. It’s a shame because the view at Sinchon is usually beautiful, even with cars and buses passing by.

I’ve visited Songpa Naru Park many times, but this time, we dropped by in the evening, hoping to experience a different atmosphere!

Honestly, the cherry blossoms didn’t bloom much, but I was still able to capture some nice views along the way.

Wah, this restaurant is seriously popular! I just had to bring my cousin here. I even gave up eating raw crab (one of my favorites!) just so she could try it—because I knew she’d love it. And guess what? We all did!

This place earns Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition every year, so how can you not visit? If you love Korean BBQ and pork, you haven’t truly been to Seoul until you’ve tried this!

I went to the Sinsa’s outlet. Its been a while, im back to Sinsa.

I can’t really remembered what we ordered, but I know we did ordered Pork Cheek and Pork Belly too! (But I do believe, we ordered whatever that is available that evening)

I’m not usually a rice person, but trust me—order the rice! It’s cooked to perfection, soaking up all the delicious meat juices. So, so good!

We are all ready to eat after our number only called after 3 hours (we arrived at 5pm, and by 6pm they stopped taking reservation!)

Oh, I have to say, the prices here are really reasonable—especially for one of the most popular BBQ spots in Seoul right now! And that truffle jjapageti? WOW. It was so good! Please, please order it—you won’t regret it. It surprised us so much that we almost went for a second round!

HELLOSIHUI’S TIPS: 
You can make a reservation at catchtable.net, but for the Seongsu & Sinsa outlets, you won’t be able to book directly through the app. Instead, you’ll need to head to the restaurant, scan the QR code on the reservation iPad, and wait for an alert when you’re three tables away. You might want to explore the area or visit a café while waiting—our wait time was 3 hours!
